Pas question de céder au chantage du locataire de la Maison-Blanche, qui estime qu’ils devraient soutenir Washington et s’impliquer militairement pour sécuriser le détroit. L’Europe sait se montrer ferme.Et qu’importe si Donald Trump l’interprète comme un «affront» et voit ce refus comme une «erreur monumentale», lui qui a menacé l’OTAN de «conséquences très néfastes pour son avenir». A Bruxelles, les Vingt-Sept réunis en sommet ne se sont pas laissé impressionner. Dans une déclaration commune publiée jeudi, la France, l’Allemagne, les Pays-Bas, l’Italie, le Royaume-Uni et le Japon se disent par ailleurs «prêts à contribuer aux efforts appropriés pour garantir la sécurité de la navigation dans le détroit d’Ormuz». Mais une fois les hostilités terminées. Des révélations de la radiotélévision publique danoise indiquent que des soldats européens s’étaient bien préparés à une invasion américaine: sous le couvert d’un exercice militaire, ils ont débarqué sur l’île avec des réserves de sang et des explosifs capables de détruire les pistes d’atterrissage.Résister à Donald Trump, à ses assauts répétés contre le droit international et le multilatéralisme, et son mépris affiché vis-à-vis de l’UE, est une question d’honneur et de valeurs. C’est aussi courir des risques. Les Européens ont besoin des Américains sur le dossier ukrainien. Une fois de plus, ils s’adonnent à un délicat jeu d’équilibriste.
